Glossectomy: This involves removing a part of the tongue that contains the tumor. The extent of the glossectomy will depend on the tumor's size and location. Partial Glossectomy: Only a portion of the tongue is removed, preserving as much of the tongue as possible. Hemiglossectomy: Half of the tongue is removed. Total Glossectomy: The entire tongue is removed. This procedure may be necessary for extensive tumors or advanced cancer cases. In such cases, reconstructive surgery may be required to restore some function and appearance. Neck Dissection: If there is concern that the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, the surgeon may perform a neck dissection to remove those lymph nodes. Following tongue tumor surgery, the patient may experience some difficulties with speech, swallowing, and taste. Speech therapy and rehabilitation are often recommended to aid in the recovery process and help patients adapt to any changes.

A frenum is a small band of muscle inside the mouth that attaches our lip muscles or tongue to the bone. The number and position of its attachment on gums may vary. When its attachment is very low or near to teeth, it hinders the movement of the lip and tongue. Few newborn babies have such frenum near the tongue which hinders their speech. In such cases, it is called Tongue-tie. In adults, it is usually seen near front teeth causing space between the teeth. Rarely even elderly individuals may also have it which hinders artificial teeth (denture) placement. Frenectomy is a small procedure to release the muscle of its attachment and allow free movement of tongue and lip. A cyst is a water-filled cavity. The most common cyst in the oral region is a Radicular cyst arising at the root of teeth due to infection in it. There are other cysts that occur in the mouth and jawbones. The tooth may or may not be extracted. It slowly grows in size and can lead to disfigurement and/or infection. It is advised to be removed. Cyst removal is a minor surgical procedure. The small cyst can be removed under Local anesthesia. It usually requires bone grafting to replace the bone lost.

Sinus lift surgery is a relatively simple procedure that can be performed in the dentist's office. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area and you will not feel any pain during the surgery. The surgeon will make a small incision in the gum tissue and then lift it away from the jawbone. A small amount of bone will be added to the area and the incision will be closed with stitches. After sinus lift surgery, you will need to take it easy for a few days while you recover. You may experience some swelling and bruising of the face. There are two types of sinus lift surgery: direct and indirect. Direct Sinus Lift Surgery The direct sinus lift surgery is performed when there is enough bone between the sinus and the tooth. During this type of surgery, an opening is made in the gum tissue so that the bone can be accessed. A hole is then drilled into the bone Indirect Sinus Lift Surgery The indirect sinus lift surgery is performed when there is not enough bone between the sinus and the tooth. During this type of surgery, an opening is made in the gum tissue so that the bone can be accessed. A small trough is then made in the bone and a piece of bone graft material is placed into the trough. Once the graft material is in place, a dental implant is placed.

Buccal fat is a fat pad situated as the name suggest in the cheek. It also extends upwards and backwards. Buccal fat gives a fuller appearance to the face. For a more rounded face, it accentuates the fat appearance. Hence removal helps in the thinner and more defined appearance of cheeks. Treament for oral cancer is mainly Surgery followed by radiation or radiation and chemotherapy. Surgery usually involves the removal of the cancerous part of the mouth. It requires plastic and reconstructive surgery to rebuild that part. It is a very deforming and debilitating surgery. Earlier the stage of cancer lesser the deformity and longer survival chances. Skin tags are painless elevated skin nodules. They are attached to the skin by a thin stalk. Usually, it goes unnoticed until of sufficient size. People often try to pull them which is not advisable. Skin tags of sufficient size may bleed. Moles are elevated pigmented nevi. A close watch is required for any changes in size, shape, and color.
