Description

TMJ- Temporo-mandibular joint. Can be called the jaw joint. The lower jaw (mandible) is the only movable bone in our face. It is a part of this joint along with the temporal(ear) bone. Commonly Perfomed TMJ Surgeries Are Ankylosis release: A trauma or birth defect can lead to ankylosis (fusion/fixation) of the lower jaw to the temporal bone thus hindering its movement. Patients thus can’t open their mouth. Surgery is done to fracture the fusion and release the lower jaw. A long standing ankylosis can lead to severe facial disfurgement. Condylar fracture: Fracture invovling the joint portion of lower jaw. Treated surgical and non-surgically. Doctor is Well Experienced to Diagnose and Treat Such Conditions TMJ DISC surgery: Tmj joint also has a disc inside a joint capsule which allows the movement of the lower jaw. Joint diseases commonly lead to changes in the position of the disc inside the capsule leading to click noise and pain on opening the mouth. Patients are carefully evaluated to find all the causes of the joint pain and adjacent muscle pain. TMJ Disc Surgery can be done Open: A skin incision is placed and the joint is opened to perform the surgery. Endoscopic: Minimally invasive with 2-3 holes near the joint. TJR (Total TMJ Reconstruction) It involves replacing the entire joint with a prosthesis much like knee replacement. Usually the last resort for advanced tmj conditions. Dr. Karan is interested in TMJ disc surgeries and TJR and continually updates himself and undergoes training. Currently performs both open and basic endoscopic surgeries. Prominent Ear Surgery

Ear shape and position have a standard although individual variations may exist. Some people may have a very protruding ear giving them almost an ape-like appearance. This can be corrected through a surgical procedure. Ideally, the correct age is as early as possible. This surgery has been done safely even in 4-year-olds. In India, usually patients come at an adult age seeking a cosmetic solution for same. The first step involves a consultation with a qualified surgeon. During this consultation, you can discuss your concerns about your ears and your desired outcomes. The surgeon will evaluate your ear anatomy and overall health to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. Otoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the patient's preference. The surgeon will make incisions behind the ear or within the natural folds of the ear to minimize visible scarring. The surgeon will reshape the cartilage and possibly remove excess tissue to achieve the desired appearance. They will reposition the ears closer to the head if they protrude significantly. After the reshaping is complete, the surgeon will use sutures to close the incisions and apply bandages to protect the ears during the initial healing period. The recovery period typically involves wearing a protective headband or dressing over the ears for a few weeks to support the healing process and maintain the new ear shape. Patients are generally advised to avoid activities that could put pressure on the ears during this time. Over time, as the swelling subsides and the healing progresses, the final results of the otoplasty become more apparent. The goal is to achieve natural-looking, symmetrical, and proportionate ears that are in harmony with the rest of the facial features.

Eye Gold Implant

An eye gold implant, also known as a Gold-weight eyelid implant or Gold eyelid implant, is a medical device used to treat a condition known as lagophthalmos. Lagophthalmos is a medical condition where the eyelids cannot fully close over the eyes, leaving the cornea and other structures exposed. This can lead to various issues, such as dry eyes, corneal damage, and an increased risk of eye infections. A gold implant is a small piece of gold that is surgically inserted into the upper eyelid. The purpose of the gold implant is to add weight to the eyelid, helping it close more effectively over the eye. When the eyelid is weighted, it can better protect the eye and maintain moisture on the cornea, reducing the symptoms and complications associated with lagophthalmos. The gold implant is often recommended when other non-surgical treatments, such as eye drops, eyelid taping, or botulinum toxin injections, have not provided sufficient relief. The procedure to insert a gold implant typically involves making a small incision in the upper eyelid and placing the gold implant within a pocket of tissue. Once the implant is in place, the incision is closed, and the eyelid begins to function with the added weight. It's important to note that the decision to undergo a gold implant procedure should be made in consultation with an ophthalmologist or an oculoplastic surgeon, as they can evaluate the individual's specific condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with a gold implant, and potential side effects or complications should be discussed with the treating healthcare professional.
